Royal jelly

Royal jelly

Royal jelly is a secretion produced by the pharyngeal and mandibular glands of young worker bees under suitable conditions. It can be described as a protein-rich, milky-colored cream with a strong acidity, a distinct aroma, and a slightly bitter taste.

It is the exclusive food of queen bees throughout their lives. Young worker bees store it in special royal cells to nourish the royal larvae. Due to this unique diet, the queen bee grows twice the size of worker bees, develops vibrant colors, and lives 30 times longer than them.
